Spirit Day 2011

Yesterday was Spirit Day at Evan and Payton's school. We made the event a family affair. I spent the evening before Spirit Day making blue and white hair bows for my girlies. For a novice, I think they turned out pretty good. Here are all 4 kiddos showing their school pride...

Payton told me when she got home, her vice principal told her she was cute and took a picture of her. I think it made her day.

Taking this picture made my day! I love it.

Labor Day Weekend & More

This Labor Day, Jason had to work. The most exciting thing the kids and I did all day was play out in the back yard.

Here's a picture from last year. We had a picnic in the park. It's amazing how much the kids have grown and how much our family has changed in the past year...

And now this little cutie is a part of the family.

On Tuesday, Evan started the Gifted and Talented program. He really enjoyed it. There are 8 kids from our school district from the second grade in the program. They all meet at another elementary school in the district on Tuesday afternoons. I'm so excited that he has this opportunity.

Tuesday evening, Payton had basketball round up. She's playing on a league at a local church. We ran into some friends we hadn't seen in a long time while we were there. I'm excited that our girls are going to be playing b-ball together. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

Thursday evening, we had family pictures for our church directory. If you know me, you know that I am a big time plan ahead kind of lady. I mean, I have all 4 kids' birthday parties planned out for next year. But for some reason, I didn't plan out what we were going to wear until about an hour before we got our pictures made. Totally not like me at all. I had a feeling that the pictures weren't going to go to well...and I was right. Let's just say when the photographer says that your 2 year-old could be a track star before the session, that's very indicative that things won't be going well. It didn't help that the photographer took quite some time getting us arranged. But, we got through it, and we will now be in the church's newest directory. We also got a free 8 by 10. I am planning to have family pictures made this fall. And yes, I do have our outfits planned out for those.

Friday, my mom, Addisyn, and I took Karsyn to the pediatrician for her 2 month check up. She weighed in at 13 pounds 3oz (90%), was 22 1/2 inches long (50%), and her noggin measured at 15 1/2 inches (50%). Needless to say, nursing has been going well.

And that about sums up our week. I also wanted to mention that I faithfully read your blogs. For some reason, I'm unable to leave comments. Until I get it figured out, know that I am reading!

Our Weekend Part 3 - Karsyn's Dedication

This weekend, Jason and I dedicated ourselves, in front of our church and our family, to raising Karsyn Faith in a Christian home.

What an honor it was to have so many people praying for us and our sweet baby girl. We are so blessed.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Our Weekend Part 2 - Water!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Our kiddos LOVE to play in the water. We love watching them. Earlier in the week, we sat up Addi's water table. She seemed to think it was her own personal pool.

After watching her play in her pool...I mean, the water table, we knew we had to take full advantage of the warm weather this weekend. We spent the evening after the big race playing in the water.

We noticed the middle ring of the pool was going a little flat. It's a good thing our trumpet playing daddy was around. His lungs were up for the job.

Karsyn's time in the pool lasted about the time it took me to take this picture. I didn't want her to get splashed or worse.

Our Weekend Part 3...coming soon. Here's Our Weekend Part One.

Our Weekend Part 1 - The Big Race

Earlier in the week, Evan brought home a registration form to the elementary division of a Cross Country Invitational. He looked at me with those big Evan eyes and asked me if he could run in the race. To be perfectly honest, I was surprised that was something that he wanted to do and I didn't quite know what to say. When Payton heard that there was going to be a race, she decided that she wanted to run it too. Jason and I weren't quite sure what to do. Don't get me wrong, we've always encouraged our children, but neither of them have ever ran an entire mile.

On Friday night, we went to the park and walked a mile together. We made sure they knew that was the length of the race. They were more excited than ever. And after thinking about it, how could we say no? How could we not let them try?

We got up bright and early for the race on Saturday morning. Here are Evan and Payton after they got registered.

We got to the starting line and saw our friend Jonathan. He goes to our school and our church.

He's the little guy in the purple.

A shot was fired and they were off. I had to fight back tears. They were less than a quarter of a mile into the race, when the pack of kids came around. A short time after the pack ran by, I saw my sweet Payton running.

And quite a ways behind her, was Evan walking.

They realized that their friend Jonathan was close by. Here they are all holding hands and trying so hard.

The winner of the race ran it in less than 5 minutes - I really think that kid was in middle school. Another race got under way before they finished, but they tried. And at the end of the day...that's all that matters.

1 Corinthians 9:24
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
