This Week...

This week, the girls started regular session gymnastics on Wednesday.  They were all so happy.  Karsyn's class starts directly after preschool.  I brought her lunch and leotard to school with us in the morning.  She ate while I did my room clean up.  She was in a little bit of a silly mood at class.  Karsyn (unlike any of our other kiddos) gets really goofy when she's tired.  I may have to switch her to another class.  We'll see.  Jason is off most Wednesdays, so he stayed home with Evan and Karsyn while I took Payton and Addi to gymnastics class.  Their class starts about 20 minutes after they get out of school, so I packed their leotards as well.  Even though we don't have enough time to go home after school, I really like the early classes.  I still feel like we get an evening at home together.  Payton and Addi are in the same class!  Dance classes are determined by grade level, whereas gymnastics classes are determined by skill level.  After summer session, Payton's coach said she could either stay in Level 1 or move up to Level 2.  We decided that since she's new to the sport, to keep her in Level 1.  We'll evaluate where she's at with her coach later in the season to determine if she needs to switch classes.  There were 19 girls in their class!  It was a full class, but the girls still had a lot of fun.

This week, we went to Band Night at Evan's school.  We had to buy his music book for the year. Other students were buying or renting their instruments.  Uncle Bryan gave Evan his old trumpet, so he was good to go!  I think Evan is going to be great at band and I'm really looking forward to our house being filled with music.

This week, I put Evan on the wait list to take a Ninja Warrior class at the girls' gym.  It's a new class that the gym is offering and it's very popular.  It's at the same time as the girls' class.  I'm really hoping that he'll get in!

This week, Jason visited the ENT about the hole in his ear drum.  It still hasn't healed, but the ENT seems to think that it will on it's own.  He has to go in for a recheck in two months. Poor guy!

This week, Payton became an entrepreneur (again).  She loves to make little loom pot holders.  She took a big bag of them to school to let her teacher pick out which ones she would like (because she LOVES her teacher!)  While her teacher was making her selection, Payton told her that she sold them at a craft fair once.  Her teacher decided to buy a couple from her.  Payton decided to ask some other teachers, the principal, and vice principal if they would like to buy some too. THEY DID!  Payton's principal told her that she could sell them to the staff, but not to the other students.  She came home with $18.45.  I just cracked up!

This week, I taught both of my classes how to use scissors.  I'm not sure if any of the kids who didn't already know how to cut mastered the craft. However, I'll count the experience a success, because all of my students left with the same amount of hair that they came to school with for the day. ha! Karsyn was the only kiddo in my first class who knew how to use scissors.  She's had a pair of toddler scissors for about a year and can use them quite well.  (That wasn't the case with my older kids and I totally freaked out when they started to learn.  Is there such thing as 4th child syndrome?)   Other than Karsyn, only one other little girl in my class had ever even picked up a pair of scissors.  I made the newbie mistake of trying to teach them all in a big group.  It got a little crazy!  I decided to teach my class the next day in groups of two.  It went so much smoother.  I feel like that class is on the road to being sensational scissorists....if ever there was such a thing.

This week, Addi has been crying every morning before school.  She loves school while she is there, but hates the idea of going.  She told Jason this week that he was fired from taking her to school. Sigh!  Today, she begged me to let her stay home.  She kept saying that she just wanted to play with Karsyn all day.  Telling her no wasn't very easy.  After school, Addi told me that she had a great day and that she loves school.  I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before things get easier.  If she takes after her Nana, it might be a while.  Nana told me that she cried every morning until the first grade. =(  It made my Grandma Paula feel just awful!

This week a lot more happened, but I'll save it for another post!

  1. What a busy week! I loved the scissor using lessons. I can just imagine how stressful that was. Brody does pretty well with scissors, but I have to hide them from him because he will get them and just start cutting. He knows where the kid scissors are in our craft bucket and will get them and just start cutting on any paper he can find. Ha! I hope Addi starts to love going to school soon. I was afraid we were starting to have that problem with Brody this year, but he did better today. :-)

  2. I'm finally getting around to catching up on my blog reading after an unintentional long absence, as you might be able to tell :)

I agree that having activities right after school makes that time busier, but having an evening free is so worth it.

And yes, Rachel also learned how to use scissors last year at preschool and now we have to hide Sam's all the time because sadly, she didn't learn what is, and isn't, appropriate to cut. Paper -- yes. Books -- no. Anything in the recycling bin -- yes. Clothes -- no. Oh well, my friend's daughter cut her hair a few weeks ago so things could definitely be worse!

And I pray school is getting easier for Addi. That first year is such a huge transition. She could be crying because she is so tired and that's how it comes out. Sam's comes out in not listening and refusing to go to bed at night so that's awesome too.
