This weekend, our sweet and crazy Karsyn turned 4 years old! Even though we've watched with our eyes wide open, our baby girl has grown up in the blink of an eye. To celebrate her special day, we told Karsyn that she could pick out whatever we did. She wanted to go to the beach. That was a little bit of a problem, you know since we live in land locked Oklahoma. We opted to go to the pool instead, which she thought was a great option. She wanted her big girl cousins to come, so Natalie, Emily, Aunt Kary, Stephen, and Natalie's friend, Daniel, joined in on the fun. When we got there, she told Natalie that she should have brought their cat, Kitty Katty. We all kind of giggled, but soon realized that she thought the Kiddie Pool was the Kitty Pool. It was so funny! It took a little coaxing on our part, but she finally decided to go for a dip in it, when she realized that there would be no cats swimming. =) She loved splashing around.
Addi's our very cautious girl, so she loved that the Kiddie Pool was open on this visit.
I love the joy on her face!
Jason loves the water too!
The birthday girl is quite fearless when it come to the water. She jumps into the deep in (with her life jacket on) like it's nothing. She also loves going down the water slide.
Stephen loved his first visit to this pool. Evan and he had a diving competition. They both loved the diving board. Here's Mr. Stephen swimming in the deep end.
Daniel won the diving contest though. He could do all kinds of flips!
I don't know if it's just a boy thing or if it's a these boy thing, but they are very competitive. After a diving contest, they had multiple slide races. With a photo finish, I declare this race a tie!
Evan was the winner here!
Payton and Emily raced too! Payton won by a long shot here. I just see Emily's toes. =)
Back at the Kiddie Pool, Addi was floating.
Karsyn was jumping in, which is a no-no! Then the birthday girl showed me something that amazed and terrified me all at the same time. She could swim with her face in the water for a few feet. Since the water was shallow enough for her to stand up if she got in trouble, I took her life jacket off. Sure enough, she could swim underwater for a few feet at a time. She's just like her daddy and doesn't hold her nose and swims with her eyes open. I am an overly cautious, non risk taker. Karsyn is fearless. I think God will always be whispering to me, "Don't let your fear hold her back."
After our pool fun, we headed home for Karsyn's birthday dinner. Then, we had the cake that Jason and she made before we left for the pool. It was her very favorite - strawberry. She got to open her presents. She got a baby mermaid and a scooter. I think she had a great birthday!

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Karsyn! That's so awesome that she can swim a few feet already Tracy. Sam can't do that after a whole year of swimming lessons. And I love that reminder to yourself: "Don't let your fear hold her back." I need to remember that too.
ReplyDeleteI think Karsyn and Brody and proving to be even more alike. They both love the water and are pretty fearless swimmers. Brody loves jumping in and was not afraid to do so without his floaties. Unfortunately, he was sinking and couldn't keep himself up. Sigh. It didn't even phase him though. I did try taking his floats off in the shallow end to see if he could swim a little. He doesn't mind putting his face in the water, but he will not keep his mouth closed and laughs about it. Sigh. So until he figures out that he needs to hold his breath, we will be waiting on the swimming with no floats. Also, he and Karsyn both love strawberry cake. That was also his birthday cake of choice this year. :-) And I can't really get the hang of the not letting my fear hold him back yet because this kid gives me serious anxiety attacks ALL THE TIME! :-(
