My 2016 New Year's resolutions are as following.
Save More. This year I plan to run a tighter ship on our family budget. I've really been looking at where the leaks are and plan to work harder in those areas. A big one is eating out too much! It's an easy bad habit to get into when you're a busy family of six. We have a couple of nights each week where all of the kiddos have something going on and to save time, we'd run to McDonald's or Sonic for a quick meal. To help with that, this weekend, Payton and I made homemade Uncrustables.
It took us around 15 minutes to make gallon size zip bags full of Nutella and PB&J sandwiches. We put them in the freezer and they are ready to go when we need them. In order to eat out less, we also have to make a big trip to the grocery store more. I am the queen of running to the grocery store multiple times a week. I've decided that every other weekend, we'll buy two weeks worth of groceries. It's a bit of a pain to make the menus, list and to shopping, but I know it's what we need to do. I've only blogged about it half a dozen times before. ha ha! The kiddos and I went shopping this weekend. Here's our huge haul.
I'm planning to Aldi's every other weekend and then have to make a Wal-Mart run or two as needed. We are also going to save more this year by cutting our cable. During the week, we are busy and don't really watch that much tv. When we do, we usually watch Netflix. That will really be an easy fix. If you have any more suggestions in this area, please let me know.
Savor more. It's amazing how fast our kiddos are growing up. Later in the year, I'll have 4 full day school kids. I want to make sure that I savor the time that I have with Karsyn before she's going to full day school, as well as the time the rest of the kiddos and Jason are at home. I have a few ideas how to do that, and you'll be reading more about that later.
Sweat more. Back in October, I started watching my calories on an app called My Fitness Pal. I've seem some tremendous results just doing that, but it's time to add working out to my regiment. My niece Natalie and I are doing a few 30 day challenges and plan to start walking together.
Scripture more. This year, I plan to read entirely through the Bible. I really want to delve deep into God's word so that I can build a stronger relationship with my Lord.
I'll do a monthly update on my resolutions.

These sound like great resolutions. I know you can do it! :)
ReplyDeleteTracy, I like the "S" theme for your resolutions! I also like the idea of making your own Uncrustables. I may need to try that. We are working on tightening up our budget as well. So far we have only eaten out once (and that's big for us!) I like the idea of grocery shopping once every 2 weeks. I may have to try that. However, you are right... it will take some planning for sure! I am currently doing WW, but have been interested in the My Fitness Pal app and counting calories. I would also be interested in joining in a challenge or two if possible. I've got to get to moving! I usually like to exercise in the morning, but Ace is still not sleeping through the night so I can't seem to pry myself off my pillow at 5AM to get a workout in and after work... don't even think about it! Any suggestions are much appreciated. :)
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to September when we can stop eating out so much. We've found it really hard with both of us working full-time to cook at home when we're both exhausted. I know that it will be so much healthier for us when I am at home and can cook all our meals. And yes to "no more multiple trips to the grocery store." Life is just so much better when I can actually menu plan AND stay on top of groceries.
ReplyDeleteI'd be curious to get an update on how these resolutions are going for you :) Although maybe I've already missed it!
