Revisiting Resolutions

Since we are nearing the end of the month, I thought it was well past time to check in to see how my New Year's Resolutions are going.  (Thank you Natasha for reminding me!)

Save more. This resolution is going quite nicely.  One of our big spending leaks has always been eating out.  We've drastically cut that down.  Some weeks, we don't eat out at all. Making a menu and shopping for two weeks of groceries at a time has been the key to success.  Plus, it's enabled us to try quite a few great new recipes.  I'll share those soon!  We also cut our cable and here's the shock......we have survived!  We have Netflix and get a few (not all) local channels.  It really hasn't been a hard transition.  Evan was able to download an ESPN ap to his tablet, so he can watch all the sports he wants. That change alone, plus negotiating a better price on our internet and phone, saves us $100 a month!!! That's $1200 a year.

Savor more. From family fun night at school to hiking to spending Sunday afternoons at the park, our little family has been savoring more time together.  It's been so nice.  Family time doesn't have to be something big and extravagant, it just has to be some time that we set aside to enjoy each other without distractions from the rest of the world.

Sweat more.  This is also an area that it going well.  I started out by doing a Dancing With The Stars workout video.  I couldn't do it.  There is a reason that I never made it as cheerleader or flag girl, and trust me, it's not because I didn't try.  Mama can't dance. After feeling like a big dork and kind of frustrated with the process, I ran to Wal-Mart and grabbed an old faithful.  Leslie Sanstone's videos are centered around walking at home.  There's 4 easy steps and the video allows us to walk up to 3 miles at a time.  I, along with my one or all of my work out buddies, started out with a mile and have recently upped it to 2 miles.  I also ride my exercise bike at least once a week.  I'm still counting my calories on My Fitness Pal and have seen some very nice results.  I'll post more on that later.

Scripture more.  I have been getting into the Word more, although it's not as much or as often as what I had planned.  I've recently heard that an adult with an average reading speed can read the entire bible in a year if they read at least 10 minutes a day.  Surely, I can devote that much time reading.

How are your New Year's resolutions going?

  1. Way to go on the not eating out. That is really impressive.

I just bought THREE of Leslie's videos to use at home because I love them so much. It's an easy way to get a quick workout in without having to go anywhere. Love this update!

  2. Good job!! We have not missed cable; although, we do miss ESPN!

I'm starting a new home workout March 14, and I need to start tracking my food as well.
