This week, Evan and Stephen went with their 7th grade band to their first contest of the season. The contest was divided into two portions - sight reading and onstage performance. They made ones in both areas, which is the highest score possible. They also won an Outstanding Achievement Award! This group has a lot of talent. It's going to be so much fun to watch their progress over their junior high and high school years.
And speaking of things on the band front, Evan has joined the ranks of low brass. He's now a baritone player. He's got a lot of work to do over the next few weeks. He has a month to learn a new instrument in a new clef before contest. He's really been working hard and I think he'll have it in no time. You could say that he's all about the bass and no treble. However next school year, he'll be playing baritone in concert band and trumpet in jazz band. He's going to have a blast.
And in other musical news, Payton and Sarah have signed up to join the middle school band next year. They both plan to play the flute. I see a lot of jam sessions in our near future.

So fun!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the band!
ReplyDeleteI love how they all want to play an instrument. I played the flute for many years!

ReplyDeleteThis is so cool. I played flute in high school so I have a special affinity for that instrument!
