Our little family had a lot of fun plans for today. We started the day off by going to Evan's first away soccer game of the season. You can read all about that in the post below. After Evan's game, we ate lunch in Tulsa and headed to The Philbrook Museum. My blogging friend, Sherry, from
Our Sweet Life Online recently wrote about a little get-a-way her family went on that included trips to a couple of different museums. I thought that sounded like so much fun! (Thanks Sherry for the idea!) I remembered a friend telling me about a program at The Philbrook Museum called Second Saturday. The museum offers free admission to everyone as well as arts, crafts, and scavenger hunts for the kids on the second Saturday of each month. We decided to give it a go and we are so glad that we did. We really enjoyed ourselves. At lunch, Jason and I realized that the last time that we went to The Philbrook together was over 13 years ago when we were dating. I was taking Art Appreciation in college and had to visit the museum to see a Van Gogh exhibit. Jason went with both Payton and Evan when they each went on kindergarten field trips. It's been a while since then and the little girls have never been. When we got there today, each of the kiddos were handed an art case. (You'll see the green cases in quite a few of the pictures.) The kids were told to bring it back each month, and they will get it refilled with a new project. Here they are checking out a statue.

We didn't have enough time to do all of the arts and crafts projects, so we decided to go on a scavenger hunt in the gardens. We were given 12 clues as to where different stones were. It was our goal to take a rub of each of the stones. We stepped out onto the terrace leading out to the gardens. To put it simply, the gardens are just beautiful!

We climbed down the stairs and started to find some of stones on our clues. The kiddos really enjoyed walking along the trails in search of them.

They would get so excited when they found a clue! They took turns rubbing each stone.

They found one!!!

Addi's turn!

While looking for each stone, we also enjoyed sitting on a few benches, walking across pretty bridges, and looking at different sculptures throughout the garden.

Silly guys!!!
We were all amazed by the butterflies in the garden. The kiddos kept sticking their fingers out, hoping one would chose it as a landing spot.

We found all of the stones and decided to call it a day. We look forward to going again! I'll end this post with a few more pictures of the beautiful garden.

This is the shot everyone takes at The Philbrook. Just wish I could have gotten it a little more even.

Oooo, now I want to go to an art museum, and those gardens are gorgeous! I definitely see Natasha liking this post! Oh and when I was writing my post about that dinosaur skeleton we saw, I noticed in my research about it that there is another skeleton of that type in Idabel, OK at the Museum of Red River so maybe you can check that out although I don't know how far that it is from you guys since it is way down in the southern part of the state close to Texas. I bet Evan would love it though! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was totally drooling over those gardens :) You know me well!
DeleteWhen we were at the museum, I kept thinking that Natasha would really enjoy it. =) I'll have to do a search! It's a little ways from us, but it would be fun to see. And you are right, Evan would love it!!!
ReplyDeleteSherry is right. I LOVE this post. Those gardens look amazing and I love the way the art cases involve the kids in the museum. What a fun trip. Between you and Sherry I think we're going to have to hit some museums too!
