Today is your last day of elementary school. You have grown up so fast! I've known since you were a baby that you were going to be the kind of boy that would forge his own trail. And that you most certainly have. You are unbelievably smart and kind. You take after your Daddy that way. I've always loved that your daddy talks to everyone so respectfully. I love that you do that too. You are also so much like your Papa Gene. You are a leader. That's just something you both were born with. People will always look to you for direction and you have no problem telling them which way to go. You're also a lot like your Papa Floyd. You love being surrounded by your family and that's when you are most yourself. I love seeing all of these qualities in you! It makes me so happy that you love life and to laugh. We never have to tip toe around you, you are almost always in a good mood and easy going. I think you get that from me. =)
You took on elementary school like a champ! You've always been at the top of your class and shown that you are capable of academic excellence. All of your teachers have just loved you. You've always been a very social kid. I used to shake my head when you would come home with grass stains and holes in the knees of your pants from playing ball with your friends. I'll miss those grass stains. I won't be seeing them once you are at middle school.
The thing is buddy, you're growing up. Your school days are going to be so different now. There won't be any more coloring contests or golden guitar awards for the best behaved class. You'll be learning how to unlock your locker and how to navigate your ways down packed halls when the bell rings. You'll also learn some things that I wish that you wouldn't. You will be faced with tough moments. And that's why I love that we have the relationship that we do. I hope that you will always feel like you can come to me and tell me anything the way that you do now. And I promise to always tell you the truth, no matter how hard the words are to say. You've made the best choice that you can and have accepted Jesus as your Savior. Never forget that He'll always be right there with you.
Evan, everyone who knows you knows that God made you for big things. Watching the way you walked through your elementary years makes me so very proud. I am very grateful that God chose to write your life story the way that He has. Son, if you keep pressing like you are, you will never see a limit on what you can accomplish. And no matter what, you will never see the limit on the amount of love that I have for you.
Love,
Mama

Congratulations to Evan! Tracy, this is a wonderful letter and it made me cry. Your pride in Evan shines through and he so obviously deserves it! You've done a good job with him thus far and he will go far with your love and support.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteWhat beautiful words, mama! They made me feel very sentimental right along with you. I am so scared for my Evan to venture into the strange world of middle school, but it sounds like your Evan is well prepared for what awaits him. Plus, didn't I read on your FB that your best friend works at his new school? That sounds like a big blessing too!
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law works at the middle school library, so she'll be there to watch over Evan. And that is a huge blessing!
