Recital Ready

I'm a good soccer mom.  I've been the team manager for Evan's team for the last four seasons.  I can crank out a cookie calendar in no time.  And when it rains, I can send out practice cancellation e-mails and texts faster than the weather in Oklahoma can change. The back of my mini van is packed with fun things to keep my littlest ladies busy during practice.  I proudly wear my soccer shirt at each game.  I'm not a bad basketball mom either.  I cheer loud and proud.  I really get caught up in the games and I just love it!  When my girls do gymnastics, I take tons of pictures!  I work with Addi on the balance beam before each class and help Karsyn with her front rolls.  I gladly sit through all of the practices.  To be honest, I love to!  But when it comes to being a dance mom, I feel like I'm a fish out of water!!!  Now, make no mistake, I LOVE watching my girls dance.  Addi cracks me up when she dances because she's just so darn cute!  Tears come to my eyes when I watch Payton dance.  Crying is the only appropriate reaction when your eyes see so much grace and beauty in one spot. My heart just swells up with pride.  However, the rest of the dance stuff is kind of stressing me out!!!  Tomorrow evening, the girls have recital pictures.  I did a trial run on make up this afternoon on Addi and Karsyn.  Karsyn's not in the recital, but she wanted her makeup done too.  Why yes, this is my two year-old wearing full stage makeup!  And her sister's froggie rain boots that are way too big!
Karsyn

Silly girl!  She makes the funniest faces!
Another dance mom recommended that I have the girls wear creamy eye shadow.  It turned out to be a BIG mess!  They had to wear it to soccer practice, because I couldn't get it to wash off.  I got asked about it...more than once!  I'm a little worried about dance hair too!  I think I'm going to have to call my hair lady for recital day.  As for tomorrow night, I'm just going to try my best.  We picked up recital costumes tonight.  Here's a sneak peak of Addi's.

I thought her costume was too small until I realized that I put it on Addi the wrong way.  I know that come next year, I'll be a veteran dance mom and the recital will seem like no big deal. But for right now, I'm just hoping that we can make it through this recital time in one piece!

  1. I love the way you wrote this piece. It does sound like a lot of work getting ready for a recital. I remember my niece Emma's dance recitals. They really are fun to watch. Emma's were more tap than ballet so they were upbeat and not as tear inspiring. I know Addi and Payton will both look so lovely all dressed up!

  3. I will be an awesome sports mom! I will be a horrible dance mom :) I love that second picture of Karsyn and, like Sherry, the way that you wrote this.
